The St. Sisters review of Broken Compass by Jaymin Eve

From USA Today Bestselling Author, Jaymin Eve, comes a new chapter in the Supernatural Prison World ...

Maximus Compass is a vampire without direction. Without heart. And without soul. He lost his true mate in the great battle against the dragon king, and now must face life alone.

And yet … something is happening to his agony. It’s fading away, leaving him with barely a memory of the female he believed to be his one and only.

As his mind clears he starts to wonder if the mate bond had been nothing more than a manufactured ploy? This suspicion explodes within him right around the time he runs back into a certain wolf shifter.

Mischa Lebron is a complication he doesn’t need in his life. He can’t erase her from his mind though, and while memories of his supposed true mate continue to fade into mere shadows, his one night with Mischa is blazingly strong. But they’re not of the same supernatural race, so there’s no way for a true bond to exist between them.

Right?

When an old threat rips apart their pack, Maximus will come to realize that he would do anything to save Mischa. That the mate he thought was perfect and precious was nothing on the shifter he walked away from. Now Maximus truly has everything to lose.

Be warned that this may be a long ass review as both myself & Britt have reviewed Broken Compass, but when you've got a book as wonderful as this it's awesomeness is hard to condense to a few word's - J

When Jaymin Eve said that she was going to carry on the supernatural prison series with books for the rest of the quads & Louis, I literally jumped for joy, and did the booknerd dance (c'mon you've got bring out the booknerd dance for anything exciting that's book related). Whilst this book, and the rest of the books she's writing in this world, will not centre on Jessa & Braxton (my two favourite lead characters EVER) we still get to see them popping up in the book. To be honest, I fell in love with pretty much all the other characters in the series any way, bar a few, so I'm just glad Jaymin is continuing with this world.

It feels like forever since Dragon Mated was released, when it was actually only a few months. However I was able to jump straight into Broken Compass without needing to refresh my memory as to what has happened previously. Jaymin has mentioned that you don't need to have read the previous three books in the series to read this book as it's a stand alone, and I agree that you could read this book and not have to worry about what's happened previously. But then I think of how fantastic the first three books are and think that you should seriously read those books anyway as you're missing out on a load of awesomeness.

Broken Compass is Mischa & Max's story, Max is the vampire in the quads (Brax's brother) and Mischa is Jessa's sister and a wolf shifter. At the end of Dragon Mated, Max's mate Cardia was killed and we discovered that Mischa was pregnant with Max's child. I know, shocker huh! Max left town before Mischa had a chance to tell him as he needed to clear his head. Now we all know from any paranormal story that losing your mate is enough to turn you insane, if it doesn't kill you first. Your mate is the other half to your heart, your yin to your yang, your world, your soul and your one & only true love. There was one big question through most of the first three Supernatural Prison series. Is Cardia really the true mate of Max? I think most of us fans were really hoping she wasn't. First she was a bitch of the first class, second she did not try to meld into the Quads and Jessa's pack and third, she did not fit in anywhere, at all. I have to say that I may have breathed a sigh of relief when she died as particularly with Mischa being pregnant, I could tell it was going to get messy.

Now Mischa was another character that I, and I know a lot of fans had some ambivalent feelings towards. She's Jessa's sister, but for most of her life she never knew she was a shifter as she was living in the human world and she never even knew she had a twin. Now in Dragon Mystics, Mischa did some pretty stupid stuff, however in Dragon Marked I think we got to see a better side of her and maybe some more explanation into why. In Broken Compass we learn why Mischa acted the way she did and yes, the reason totally makes me forgive her for that. Also as this book is written in dual POV's from both Max & Mischa, which I totally love by the way and we should get more books written like this, we learn what makes Mischa tick, without her being overshadowed by the kickass and snort out loud thoughts of Jessa to divert our attention. Mischa is just as strong and stubborn as Jessa, but in different ways. Jaymin has done very well to write a character that can live up to the awesome (in my eyes) Jessa and lead a story and make us laugh in the way that Jaymin's characters are well known for doing. I warmed to Mischa so much in this book that she's now one of my favourite characters. Yes, I am now #TeamMischa

Jaymin has written another heart stopping, edge of your seat, unputadownable, don't dare interrupt me or you may get hit, book here. The action and story had me on a knife edge most of the way through the book and whilst we still had the 'piss yourself laughing' comments, we also had some more serious moments too and ones that had me catching my breath as to what would happen next. I really didn't think that Jaymin could top any of her previous books, but I think she may have gone and done it. I gulped this book down in one sitting and didn't stop to do anything, not even pee, that's how much I loved it.

If you're already a fan of Jaymin Eve then what are you waiting for, read this book already! If you've not read any books by Jaymin Eve yet then what are you waiting for, read them now! Trust me, you won't regret it. In fact I expect you'll thank me for introducing you to them ;) This is one of those books that you won't regret reading and that you'll want to pick up every year to read again.

Now to impatiently await for Jaymin's next book, which I'm hoping will be Louis story as I need to know what happens with him next.

Hey Rocking readers,
Brittaini here!
First I just want to say I wish I could ditto everything JemDazzle said but I actually DO have to say *something* to make my review space my own! Sooooo...
I don't even know where to start with this one. I knew.. KNEW cardia was a fake. That's probably my favorite confirmation. I always knew she was a snake. But I lived the way Jaymin twisted it. It was like blindeside -BAM- in yo' face. I can't wait to see how her sister plays into the next book.

Mischa: Now I always loved her character, I didn't know why; couldn't put a finger on it, but I did. I would defend her in fan debates and even easily forgave her when doodle head had her enslaved. I was so happy to see her finally accepted and come into her own. Jess is cool, but everyone already lives her. Mischa was just more relatable to me. I always knew she was a true mate too! So excited for this character.

I'm just going to say I LOVE Louis and his manly manliness, and when he gets his mate I will cry. Cry tons and tons of jealous tears.

The pregnancy stuff was perfectly written, and much needed. I cannot wait to see what compass babies mean for the future.

All in all it was another slam dunk for Jaymin! I wouldn't have missed it for the world.
I'm itching to get my hands on the next one.

PS Jaymin if your reading this, Louis needs to stay S-I-N-G-L-E until I can finagle my way into fiction land and beat off the other bitches xD
