Jem's review of Maggie by Mya O'Malley

maggie

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to share your home with an unearthly spirit who can’t find closure? Living on the edge of a cemetery with souls dating back to the 1700s would be enough to spook anyone, but Naomi finds it oddly romantic, and becomes inspired to write her next novel. Why not, when her muse, Maggie, calls to her from beyond her own window? After all, the story couldn’t possibly be as complicated as Naomi’s own love life. Torn between Ryan, the mysterious and seemingly perfect man she just started dating, and Bryce, the sexy single dad who recently moved in next door, Naomi must navigate the tangled web of dating—all while trying to solve the mystery of Maggie’s death. When things turn dangerous, Naomi quickly learns whom she can trust and, more importantly, whom she can’t. Will she be able to write Maggie’s story and finally give Maggie the peace she deserves?

So I've just finished reading Maggie by Mya O'Malley and I just fell in love with this seat gripping, suspenseful book.
I love paranormal books, when I say love I'm not kidding as about 95% of the books I read are paranormal, but I have never been a fan of books with ghosts in so I went into reading this book with trepidation. I don't know what I was so worried about as this book was awesome.

Naomi, who is the main character, was a sweet, but stubborn (in a good way) female lead. She was determined not to back down from her story or the investigation and I admired her for that as no matter how dangerous it got for her she was going to see it through to the end.

I don't want to mention any of the other characters as I feel that it could give away spoilers, but each and everyone that we were introduced to had a part to play in the story and they were all characters that were fleshed out & had substance to them. One of my pet hates are secondary characters who are flimsy and are just there in a story because the author needed to fill it out. I'm happy to say that Mya has not fallen foul to that in this book, or any of her other books which I've read so far.

This really was a beautiful story which I enjoyed reading. It kept me on my toes as just when I thought I knew what was going to happen next we're thrown one curveball after the other. I really had no idea how the book was going to end and it had me on the edge of my seat right to the very end. That made a change as normally I find I can guess where the book is heading, but there really was no chance of that with Maggie.

This is definitely a book that I'll be going back to re-read, and as someone who's not a fan of ghost stories, that's high praise from me indeed. Maggie gets the full five stars from me, so why don't you go & try it out yourselves and see what an amazing read this is.

Rena Marks Forgotten Kisses Review

This is book 1 in the supernatural sharing series by Rena Marks. If you're a fan of novels with both vampires & werewolves fighting over the same woman then this may be a book you'll enjoy. All three of us read this book, however I didn't enjoy this book as much as the other two, the best way for me to describe it is that it just was not my cup of tea. It is very difficult to write a review when you do not enjoy a book, however I have and I have tried not to be biased.

Anjelia Romere falls in love with Julian Bax, master vampire of the city. Yet she is pursued relentlessly by prestigious Dr. Leo Freedman, also known as the werewolf king. Happy with Julian, her life is turned upside down when she realizes her vampire betrayed her by erasing her memory of being the wolf queen.
Already tied for life to the master vampire as his human servant, yet still destined to be the wolf king's mate, Anjelia wonders whom to choose.
While both offer hot passion and steamy nights, one option is insanity, the other, death.

I have given this book 3 stars because it is not a terrible book, it's just not my cup of tea and I don't want that to put anyone else off reading it.

This is a story of humans, vampires and werewolves. I did feel that there were some of the usual cliques you find in most vampire & werewolf novels however there were also some original and new ideas. It was an interesting story in that humans are aware of the supernatural world, but the majority of people are not fans of them, particularly the vampires. It follows the main character, Leah, and her relationship with the vamps and wolf's which takes some twists & turns

My one criticism about the book was the language used to describe the erotic scenes. They just made me cringe and felt some words could've been left out or things described a different way.

Overall this is not a terrible book, it's just not a story I enjoyed. If you are a fan of vampire & werewolf love stories with some erotica thrown in then I recommend this book for you.

Brittaini:

As Jem mentioned above, we all received this book. And I did enjoy it more than her.

I'm not usually a fan of love triangles, although this one puts a bit of a twist on the classic situations, with the mind wipe, and intruige.

I personally am excited to read book 2 and see where this goes. #TeamLeo. Also, without giving away to much I will gladly sing "Ding, Dong, The bitch is dead"! Whoohooo. Probably one of my favorite parts of the book.

I gave this Book a 4/5 stars. And as stated above my criticism is about the erotic scenes. The language used needs work, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed to see that growth happen in the next book ;).

Peace Love & Happy Reading

Jem's - Perfekt Balance by S.T. Bende

Perfekt Balance is the third book in the Aere Saga series by S.t. Bende and is released on Tuesday 5th April. If you haven't read the first two books in the series then I recommend starting those first.

Become what you believe.

Elsa Fredriksen knows there’s a thin line between love and fear. As High Healer, she rights the wrongs committed by those who choose the darkness. But even Asgard’s secret weapon can’t undo every injury—especially when her fate is completely entwined with the god she’s trying to save.

Elsa’s in love with the Norse God of Justice. But Forse’s heart is ruled by fear—fear that the past will repeat itself; fear that opening his heart will compromise his ability to do his job; fear that he’ll hurt the one girl he desperately wants to protect. Again.

When Elsa faces off against the very monster she once swore to protect, her survival depends on a power she isn’t sure she can control. And when Forse’s worst nightmare unfolds in front of him, Elsa has to decide whether it’s more important to hold the realms in perfekt balance . . . or hold onto the guy she can’t imagine existing without.

Perfekt Balance follows Elsa as the main character, who is Tyr's sister and whom we first met in Perfekt Order.
As Elsa is the current Unifier for Asgard, a job she hardly knows anything about (she is standing in until Mia can take up the role), she is taken along on a mission with Tyr, Brynn and Forse to the dark elf realm of Svartalfheim. Forse is not happy about Elsa being bought along as, if you've read the rest of the series, we all know that there are some deep hidden feelings between the pair of them that I've been desperately hoping gets resolved.

I really loved this book and like all of S.t. Bende's books it's incredibly well written. I'm not quite sure how S.t. does it, but just when you think she can't top her last book, she does. The depths of characters and the world building she creates is just something else, she draws me so deeply into her worlds that I feel like I'm there and forget that really I'm just back in grey, rainy London on Midgard. I also love how there is a mixture of Swedish and Norwegian words used in her books, Hei Hei and jag elsker deg have become new favourite words of mine since reading S.t. books.
I love how we still get to see all the characters from the other books (especially happy as Tyr is my favourite) and the relationships she has between them all. I have to admit that there were certain parts with the interaction between Tyr, Elsa & Forse that had me laughing out loud. This book actually had me on the edge of my seat a bit more than the previous two, there were also some parts that touched my heart more than the other two books did.

I don't have a favourite book from S.t. Bende's library as I really do think all of her books are as awesome as the other, however this one may be a very close top read of hers for me. I loved it and I recommend you all buying it when it's released.

Britts Review: Demon Princess by Kassandra Lynn

Okay so get ready to fall in love with a new author. I received this book for an honest review. Amazon is totally acting up on me, but I've posted one to good reads & now it's time to regale you fine people with with one. Stick around because it was totally worth the exchange and I'm looking forward to seeing a lot more from Kassandra!

Demon Princess:
" With her father gone and her brother missing, Demon Princess Adriana has to assume the throne, temporarily becoming the Demon King"
(I love that her title will still be Demon King.)
"Somehow, Aldric, a mage-in-training, has summoned the princess into the human kingdom. Now trapped, Adriana must hide her identity and escape before she loses her life in the hands of her mortal enemies"

"Summoned"? How? Why? What's the pesky human want!?
What he wants is to treat her like a beast. I could rip through the pages and throat punch the hell out of this kid! But I think that's the point, Kassandra wrote him extremely well if that's the emotion she's trying to instil.

Enter Keldrin. Mage in shinning sweetness.  He's sweet, kind, knowledgeable, honorable, and powerful. AND ...wait for it!! ...HE HAS A DRAGON!! SQUEEE. :3

Enter stage bitch face: Princess Salvene. I won't say to much, because I'm not sure I could stop. Hate her. I'm team Demon Princess, Human Princess is going downnnnn.

So Adri, our female lead is torn from her kingdom to be bonded to a dipshizz mage mentioned above. She puts up a hell of a fight about it to. I liked her instantly. Now if our male lead would've just let her run by, we wouldn't have a story, but it sucks that it's him. Oh well guess you have to introduce him sometime. But on the other hand I'm glad. He treat Adri right which makes him alright in my books!

Now Adri just wants to go home and nothing is going to stop her! But you will have to grab the book to find out how her adventure plays out!
I personally thoroughly enjoyed this book, and immediately requested to be notified of other books . I only wish it were longer! I was really enjoying it to much for it to end. The story is strong, original, and entertaining. It's well written, and dies not drag on.

Also, I lovvvvvve the cover. It leaves a mystery to Adri's looks, allowing you to create your own image in your mind. All the while projecting royalty, and beauty in a darker place.

A small teaser for you below!

" You know I would never do that.”
“I don’t know. I’m vile. I have the blackest soul and foulest intentions.”
“Adri.” He reaches out a hand to cup my face.
I slap his hand away before it touches me.
“I didn’t mean you,” he says.
I press my lips together. “All demons are vile, and I am a demon.” His words hurt and enrage me every time I think about it. A fresh wave of tears wells in my eyes and threatens to leak down. Without meaning to, my voice raises. “I deserve to be chained up and treated like a beast. Someone should throw me into a dungeon right now before I attack your people, and—”

She's getting a Big Ol Shiney 5 stars! Let's keep looking out for the next one and see if she can keep up the awesomeness! No pressure, right? Lol.  Got read this book guys it's worth it!

Peace Love & Happy Reading Ladies and Gents.
And with that I leave you with this:

If you're a dreamer, come in.
If you're a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A Hope-er, A Pray-er, a magic bean buyer...
If your a pretender, come sit by my fire,
For we have some flax-golden tales to spin.
Come in!
Come in!
Come in!
