T's - Reap the Shadows Review

I loved this book!!!! I am biting my nails for more!!!

Annette did an amazing job with this book. Her writing style was a huge improvement and I read this book in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down it was that good. There are so many twist and turns that you don’t know where she tends to go with the book. The moment the book starts Piper has found her father and uncle Caldor and the consulate system has taken a beating along with the consulates themselves and something is obviously going on. Since Piper has been back she has been on search for Seiya and Lyre, whom she believes to have been taken into the Ra embassy as prisoners. Piper has no idea of the harsh reality that Seiya and Lyre face, and Ash makes a timely appearance. From then on there is nothing but non-stop action.

I hate writing bad reviews about good books but I have a few things that drove me crazy about the book.

- First of all WHAT IS WITH Ash and Piper. I hated how we had to wait for Ash to show up and then he was a big ol` ball of daemon pissyness, and we know he loves Piper and he shows all the signs but does he say a word. NO!!!! Ugh I need some romance with these to.

- About 70-80% of the book Piper was indecisive about her feelings for Ash and she whined and complained the whole time. She feels that she is always being rescued and a damsel in distress (when I read the book I didn’t feel that way.) You love the man, but you are so scared about what could happen you panic. She is a kick ass character who will fight for anything but when it comes to love she freaks (I get it she is a teenager and all but come on you told him you loved him)

- feeling that she is always being rescued, we the reader never believe in her helplessness and she is as much made of steel in her character as the series

- Piper told Ash she loved him and it wasn’t once brought up in the book. Except for a hint but Ash halfway through the book but come on! You can’t leave your readers hanging like that. Then they have sex and don’t even admit they like each other. To me there was no romance it was just a one night stand and so many things were left unsaid. And now I have to wait till “Unleash the Storm” to get more answers.

- “Some problems aren’t fixable, but that doesn’t mean you should stop. That sense that you can’t move forward ... that’s the trap. It’s better to take the best future you can manage with what you have, than to put your life on hold trying to fix everything in the hopes of a perfect future that might never come.”

- “Even if we only have tonight ...” she said, her voice trembling. “Just for tonight, I want to forget about it all and just be with you.” Shadows slid across his eyes, emotions she couldn’t name. His hand curled over the back of her neck, gently pulling her face to his until their lips were almost touching. “Just for tonight,” he whispered, “and for as long as you want me.”

- “Ash told me you threw his tracking spell into the river. Why?” She cringed slightly. “Yeah, that. It’s hard to explain ...” “Try.” The command was firm but his voice was gentle. “I watched him die,” she said, her eyes dropping to the sidewalk. “I saw the daggers go into his chest. I saw him fall over the edge. And I thought that was it. I thought he was dead and that it was my fault. When I found out he was alive, I knew I could never let that happen again. I couldn’t let him die for me—die fighting my battles. It’s not his responsibility to make sure that I survive to the next day.”

This book had me in tears and elation in equal measure. I give it 5 Stars.

T's - Yield the Night Review

After losing her apprenticeship Piper returns from boarding school only to have her home Consulate burnt down around her. When she wakes up she finds that she has been kidnapped by her mother and the Gaians. The Gaians plans are to unlock Piper’s sealed magic and have piper help lead the Gaians in a rebellion against the Consulate, but nothing ever is that simple. However when the seal on Piper’s magic is broken, it’s a race against time to save her life. Piper, Ash and Lyre must go on a quest to find a healer who can help her control her magic. While on the way Piper learns about her past and family heritage.

Piper has grown and matured throughout the series and how she rises to every challenge. She is not perfect and tends to complain way too much in her head, but she does learns from her mistakes. Ash and Lyre both hold a special place in my heart (We all know she is in love with Ash) yet I can see why they became such loyal friends. I loved seeing the other sides to Lyre to, he is such a confusing character and I want to know more about who he is. Ash is so infuriating but I love his character, he never makes anything easy but you know he has a soft spot for piper.

I was definitely surprised when I found out about Pipers heritage and who she is. But one thing that stands out the most is how Ash reacts to her once she gets a hold of her magic. There is definitely something brewing between those two and I can’t wait to see how it grows throughout the series.

-The one thing that bugs me is Piper tells Ash her feelings, he is asleep, but not really. After confessing her feelings she leaves him because she doesn’t want him coming to her aid and she wants to prove herself. She did get annoying in parts of the book, but reliance and eagerness for Ash's help. In a way she lost a bit of her flare and fierceness.

-I think Ash is finally coming to terms with his feelings for Piper. I have no idea what will happen in book 4 but I hope the characters are finally going to stop being so stubborn and confess their feelings.

-"You should take your clothes off beforehand. There's no way to know what your form will be. Constricting garments could be painful."
She tried not to blush. "Okay."
"Hold on a minute." Lyre followed his arms across his chest and scowled. "How come when he tells you to take your clothes off, you're all, 'Sure, no problem'?"

-“Ash had done so much more than capture her heart. He’d changed the very landscape of her soul.”

 I give this book 5 stars!

T's - Bind the Soul Review

Piper’s story continuous with more of her breaking the rules to becoming an Apprentice Consul.After surviving the Sahar incident in the first book, we learn that Ash (gorgeous draconian daemon) is missing. Piper, knowing Ash is definitely in trouble, will do everything in her power to bring him back. With Lyre’s help, Piper's mission is to find Ash and save him from Samuel in the Underworld. It a rough journey full or torture, tears, love, magic, power and hatred.

There are twist and turns at every corner. I don’t want to give too much away because this book is amazing. I would normally write a really long review but I don’t think this book needs one. It way better than the first one and I couldn’t put it down.

I will say one thing though:

The romance between Piper and Ash is definitely starting to heat up. Piper is trying to save ash, but unfortunately when she finds him, he is Shaded. So when they are in the mist of escaping, he pins her to a wall and almost bits her neck!!!! Also, that kiss!!!!! OMG I need more, so hot and steamy. That is all I’m giving away but I need more scenes between the two. It definitely heating up

-"You are to the Sahar what a gun is to a bullet. The bullet is what kills people but it’s powerless without the gun. Samuel will hold you close as his most prized possession. You will be his ultimate weapon. You can wield the Sahar, the only one who can. If he can't use it, then he will train you to use it. He will torment and torture you until you are as obedient a slave as Raum, only a hundred times more powerful than any draconian."

I give this book 5 stars!!!

T's - Chase the Dark Review

I was recommended this by amazon based on the books that I have read. So I was skeptical at first but I’m so glad I gave this book a chance. It has its up and down but overall I NEED MORE.

When reading this book you need to give it till chapter 4 or 5 before you give up. The first chapters are really difficult to get through and it seems the authors writing changed completely after chapter 4. There are a few areas within the book that needed to be edited again but overall well done.

This book is fun, dangerous, action-packed and full of heated tension. I couldn’t put this book down. Piper the main character his head strong and will not let anyone stand in her way of becoming a consulate. She will overcome all the odds to reach her dreams. Unfortunately an incident occurs and she is paired with the gorgeous and drool worthy ash and Lyre. They set off to find Pipers father and figure who is after the Sahar stone.

(I won’t give any of the book away but I’ll give you snip it’s here and there. I don’t want to give away anything.)

What I loved about the book

- Piper is determined, strong willed, and easy to fall for deamons apparently. I love the forbidden love that’s brewing between Piper and Ash. You know they will fall for each other (if they haven’t already), but they always have each other’s back. The author is testing both characters, they don’t know if they should trust each other, but no matter what they are there for one another.

- The descriptions of the deamons makes them so real in my head. Annette does an excellent job on her descriptions of all the characters and showing her readers how creepy that really are. But what I liked the most is she showed the softer side to them as well, they aren’t all evil.

- Ash….. Oh you devilishly gorgeous of a man. You may be a deamon but man can you kick some tail. He is hiding a lot of secrets and I can’t wait to learn more about him in the future books.

- Lyre…… oh Lyre you incredibly insatiable incubus. I love your character, but give a girl a break. Let her love another man. But he is by far one of my favorites. He is witty and doesn’t hold back, when he wants something he will get it, no holding back.

What I didn’t care about the book

- It needed to be edited again before release. I found a mistakes all over the place, but I’m hoping her next book will be a huge improvement.

-Wish effort, she closed her mouth. Damn. Ash was… was badass. Dark, sexy, and oh-so-yummy badass. Lyre oozed so much sensuality she’d never really noticed Ash the way before.

-“Shh,” She whispered quickly, cutting him off as his shaking increased. She wrapped her arms around his head and neck, holding him tight to her, not knowing what else to do. Hysterical laughter tickled her throat, trying to escape. She was hugging a panicking, fully shaded, un-glamoured deamon. On purpose.

She forgot what she’d been planning to say. That boyishly questioning expression on his face was just like the badass draconian in her kitchen with a pink can of cream soda in his hand. It was so absurdly out of place that is was charming.

-A dark figured rose, a black wraith in the night. Wings as dark as midnight spread wide as he turned toward her. They slowly drew in again. He stepped forward.
Her gaze raked over him, desperately searching for something familiar. Something human. Black, plate-like scales ran down his arms and covered the back of his hands, leathery in texture, faintly glossy. They plated his fingers, each one ending in a deadly, curved claw. The scales were like living artwork, beautifully interlocking, mimicking over his shoulder, almost identical to a dragon hide. The dark armor spread over his shoulders, dipped down along his collarbone, and faded into dark lines that coiled over the upper half of his bare torso.

-Wondered what the three deamons would do if she sat down where she was and refused to move until fate stopped bitch-spalling her at every turn.

T's - Crystal Kingdom Review

I had high hopes for this book I really did, but it fell flat for me. The book picks up with Bryn on the run, she’s now on The Most Wanted List among the Kanin. With no one to help her, and not knowing where to start her quest she finds herself aligned with Konstantin Black. Under the rule of the evil Queen Mina, the people of Doldastam are trapped under her tyranny, with the death of King Evert Strinne. Both Bryn and Konstantin travel to the Omte kingdom seeking help to over throw Mina and to save Kanin trolls. Things turn sour pretty quickly and they are on the run. The venture all through the troll kingdoms until they settle into Skojare. War is on their door step and kingdoms are divided. There is plenty of bloodshed, and intense battle scenes. But the biggest things I have to complain about is the romance between Bryn and Ridley, Konstantine and Bryn, and lack character development.

Here is my list of things that seemed off.

-Bryn didn’t have much character growth and seemed to be in her own little world. In the time of battle a character is faced with many challenges and hardship, but at the end of battle when Bryn casted aside Astrid to be killed by the trolls was pretty heartless. And if I’m not mistaken I don’t recall Bryn ever saying she loved Ridley. Yet she would make out with him, have intimate moments, and give her life for me but not tell him her true feelings.

- Ridley was madly in love with her but pushed her away because he didn’t know how to deal with his demons. He was always by her side. He was by far the best character but seemed to lack development. I didn’t feel the connected between him and Bryn, it felt like they were friends with benefits.

-And to top that off (I could see this happening in book 1) there was a love triangle. Ugh she loved them both and couldn’t decide between which one, so kill one off and be happy with the other. Konstantine was a good man, even though he was lied to and strung along, he fell in love with the white rabbit. He wanted to sacrifice himself so he could redeem his name. It was sad to see him die but if you loved a girl don’t want till the very end to tell her.

-Bryns friends were killed and yet she doesn’t seem very hurt by it. She lacks empathy as a character and is in her own world. She still blames herself for everything when it has absolutely nothing to do with her. I wish there were more scenes with Ember, Linus, and Delilah. Linus was just thrown in the mix and we weren’t able to see him really evolve into his new life.

It was a sad ending to an ok series. I’m glad it’s over but I wish some of the characters lived and we learned more about the fate of the others kingdoms. There are a lot of questions that are left unanswered. Hopefully one day Amanda Hocking will give us a spin off series to wrap everything up.

-“My outfit was a black dress with a corset waist, off-the-shoulder sleeves, and a large ball gown skirt. It looked like something someone might‘ve worn to a Gothic wedding. And then they‘d been buried in it for a few months.”

- For so long, I thought love was a weakness-as something that would only make you distracted and vulnerable. But what id come to realize was that love had only made Ember braver than she’d ever been before. Love made Tilda find the strength to carry on. Love made my parents willing to sacrifice everything for each other.                                              And love made me stronger. I would do anything to save Ridley. I would do everything I need to do.

I would rate this book a 2 out of 5 stars.

T's - Ice Kissed Review

I loved the first book. It was well written and the plot was so different from everything else that I have read, that it caught my attention right away. But this book, I am no impressed at all. The whole forbidden love between Bryn and Ridley is annoying. The author makes him out to be a playboy, he has a girlfriend/interest and all he can think about it Bryn. But the moment that Brynn and Ridley have a chance of romance he tells her “no we can’t do this, we will lose our careers and I need to think about Juni.” For gad sakes!!!! The ending wasn’t too bad. I want to see what happens with Konstantin Black because there is more there than meets the eye and I have a gut feeling he isn’t the bad guy.

Now that my ranting is done now to the nitty gritty.

- Don’t get me started on the writing. There are scenes where items just miraculously appear, scenes that makes no sense, and several paragraphs that need to be edited. This book took me forever to finish because I was so tired of Bryn. But I’m glad I finished it because I really want to see how the series ends. I’m just hoping that the 3^rd book is way better.

- Bryn annoyed me the most in this book. Not only were her arguments childish and painful to even listen to, her constant ‘it wasn’t my fault; it was your fault” was ridiculous. Stop complaining, stop trying to do everything your own way, stop ignoring every opinion other than your own, and stop trying to shift the blame, even when things are your fault!

-The book was well written with a few mistakes. But this book could have been a third of the length. The book seemed to drag on and on. There was not enough to make a good book, it lacked severely. The main character can kick butt like the rest of them, but also be annoying/boring through 75% of the book (that’s being generous).

-And if I’m not mistaken there characters are trolls not humans. There seems to be no distinction between the two so you need to constantly remind yourself throughout the book, I wish the author put more thought and work into her book to allow her readers to get more involved and engrossed. This is the first book in a long time that I have no liked one bit. It reminds me of the house of night series that should have been 3 books instead of 12.

-One of the things I wished for as well was more scenes with Ridley, Tilda and Ember. There were some of my top fav characters and it seemed to slack. Also Bryn was so distant from all of them, how can you call them your best friends or really want to hang out with them? Bryn seemed to be so selfish that I wouldn’t even hang out with her. I don’t see how they are friends except for the fact that they are all outsiders.

-I am hoping the 3^rd book is better and gives us more. I’m hoping Bryn develops more as a character and allows herself to grow.

All in all I gave this book 2 stars.
